Lost Wings of Summer

25cm X 35cm | paper, card, glass, plastazote, pins
Reprising my fascination with conventions of Natural History collecting, this letterpress collection of British Butterflies is a requiem for thirteen British Butterflies: Wall Brown, Black Hairstreak, Black-veined White, Large Blue, Large Heath, Mazarine Blue, Large Copper, Large Tortoiseshell, High Brown Fritillary, Grayling, Heath Fritillary, Glanville Fritillary, and Wood White. Five of the species are extinct, and the other eight are on the endangered red list. My drawings are printed from a metal plate are printed on a rare Swiss FAG letterpress machine. The resulting images are lasercut, and hand assembled on a plot cut folded paper base with tiny sepia lables debossed into the paper. Pinned into an all white entomology box, in a limited edition of 30.
